fluff-and-repeat working: if the reader makes a mistake, he or she just goes back and starts again from the beginning of a sentence or paragraph, deciding where to pick up from. Recording continues, and the subsequent editing tidies up the result. Faster in the studio, but can take a very long
time to edit.
rock-and-roll or drop-in working: (so called from the old habit of rocking tape spools back and forward to find exact locations): If the reader makes
a mistake, the engineer stops the recording, and plays back from a point shortly before the error, going instantaneously from playback to record at
an agreed point, so the reader joins in with the playback. Can produce smoother edits, since the reader hears the exact context, but slower in the studio. Much faster editing, since all the words are already roughly edited.
